The Key To Headache Relief

THIS IS WHAT BRINGS THEM BACK FOR MORE

The reason I got into massage therapy was due to my own chronic headaches.  Working in the medical world at that time and having all the modern medical conveniences available to me was still not helping to relieve my headaches.  It was then that I walked away from Western medicine and tried what Eastern medicine had to offer in massage therapy.  I clearly remember after my first massage the feeling of headache relief, which was a miracle for me to finally be experiencing.

Having worked as a massage therapist for the past 15 years, I don’t think I've had one week go by where I haven’t had a client come in who was looking for some relief for a headache or migraine.  I truly believe that it was because of my own treatment for headaches that I received my greatest education on how to treat headaches.  My formal training, combined with what I knew from receiving massages, has really been the key in helping others.

The last client I treated for headaches stated that she had been going to the chiropractor and what he did for her felt good for a very short time but it didn’t last as long as she had hoped it would.  After she described the pain being located in her upper traps, near the top of her spine, I was able to concentrate my efforts in that location, along with trying to loosen the muscles groups both above and below where she had pinpointed.

When her massage was over, she kept repeating that she could already feel relief and couldn’t believe how much that it had her helped her right away.  The following morning I was pleased to receive a text from that client telling me how much better she was feeling and what a wonderful massage therapist I was.  It is stories and experiences like this that gives me great job satisfaction and makes me look forward to seeing my next client in hopes that I can also make them feel much better when they leave my office.

Review of Biotone Dual Purpose Massage Creme

I have been a massage therapist for 15 years and have tried several commercial products available on the market.  During this time, I discovered Biotone Dual Purpose Massage Creme, which I still use to this day. I demand the best for my clients, and Biotone Dual Purpose Massage Creme fits my need perfectly.  I have not found a product that even comes close in comparison.

One of the reasons I like the creme is because it’s fragrance free.  I have several clients who are sensitive to perfumes and essentials oils and none of these clients have had a reaction to this product.  Being that it is fragrance free, it makes it simple to add essential oils to the creme to obtain the desired fragrance.

I have worked with some products that are either too sticky, too greasy, or absorb into the skin too quickly but this creme glides over the skin effortlessly.  The consistency is almost like butter and as you work with it, the warmth of your hands and the client’s skin makes it become a very workable.  It maintains its’ consistency throughout the massage causing less product to be used.

Another advantage over the other products is that the creme is grease-less and does not leave oil stains on the linens.  When I have had a massage myself, I never like how I feel oily until I can shower.  With the Biotin Dual Purpose Massage Creme I did not feel oily at all. I have been pleased that many of my clients have commented that it doesn’t leave their skin feeling oily and it washes off them easily.  When I use this product I work from a large gallon container and I have found it is very easy to transfer to the smaller containers that I use per individual client.

I typically go through a gallon of creme every few months and though this creme is some what higher priced then other products, but when you break it down it only costs 25 to 50 cents per massage which is very reasonable.  As a business owner, I recommend Biotone Dual Purpose Massage Creme a wise investment for customer satisfaction.

A Sit Down with Ruth Price, L.M.T.

When I attended the Utah College of Massage Therapy in Lindon, Utah I had one instructor that stood out from the others. The class, Business Mastery, was one that sounded quite boring.  However, the instructor, Ruth Price made the material come to life and made attending class something everyone looked forward to.  My education extended beyond the classroom where I, along with several other students, would go to Ruth's office where she would teach us techniques that she had developed from her past experience and formal schooling.  It was impressive for me to find someone else who approached life much the same way that I did, where we both wanted to learn and know more.

After practicing massage therapy for twenty-one years, Ruth has found a niche working with clients who have medical problems ranging from headaches to fibromyalgia.  When Ruth had her personal massage practice she developed massage techniques that could be used when working on patients post operatively following plastic surgery.  Ruth has been teaching in many different arenas for a large portion of her life so teaching massage techniques was a perfect fit for her.  Following her development of these post-op massage techniques she started teaching them in private classes, as well as, offering classes at local massage schools.  Ruth said, “I really enjoy the atmosphere where there are students that have a drive and a desire to learn.”  Not only did Ruth teach, she was also the director of the Utah College of Massage Therapy.

Following her time as director of the massage school, Ruth and a business partner started their own day spa, named Four Winds, which was located at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City.  Ruth has said, “The day spa was a lot of work but I really learned a lot, made some mistakes along the way but I came out a better business person in the end.”  The day spa had a large classroom where they had a calendar of different massage speakers, yoga classes, and hands-on massage modalities could be demonstrated.  Unfortunately, the space they were leasing at Trolley Square had such high overhead that they decided to relocate the day spa a little further north on 9th and 9th near Sugar House in Salt Lake City.

The new location has a great following for clients following surgery and for many older clients who have mobility problems.  Ruth said, ”Massage has always been a passion for me and although it gets harder on me physically, I plan to practice massage for the rest of my life.”  The reason Ruth loves massage therapy is because there is always something to learn in order to become a better therapist.  Not only is Ruth an excellent massage therapist, but she is someone that people in the industry turn to for answers to their massage questions.  To this day, Ruth continues to educate herself past the formal massage school classroom and gains greater experience to help others.

A place for people to become more educated about massage therapy.

Fifteen years ago I was working for a neurologist and experiencing chronic headaches.  The doctor I was working for was very concerned and had me tested to determine what may be causing the headaches.  Multiple tests were performed, from a spinal tap to an MRI, and all the test results came back as normal.

One day, my roommate had a blind date and during my conversation with him, it came up that I was having chronic headaches.  He was a massage therapist and asked if I had ever tried massage for my headaches. I had not, so the next day I found a massage therapist.  For the first few months I received two to three massages a week and was eventually able to get weekly massages and my headaches were then manageable.

Massage was the BEST thing that ever happened to me.  In the fall of 1998, I learned that the Utah College of Massage Therapy was opening a school in Lindon, Utah and I signed up to be in the first night class.

After graduation I became employed by the massage school as an instructor for the Sports Massage class and also worked in the office as the Volunteer Service Coordinator.  While working in these positions I started my own personal massage practice, The Great Escape Professional Massage.  One of my massage instructors had developed a massage technique for post-op plastic surgery clients and taught me. I have had referrals from plastic surgeon James Clayton for 14 years and I find it very rewarding to watch the client’s scar tissue soften and heal and know they’re happy with the final results.

I have had great success working with clients experiencing headaches over the years and I will be discussing this here.  There are many ways to both take care of headaches for yourself and as well helping others through the massage techniques I will share without.

feel that everyone can learn something from someone else, so whether you are a professional or just someone who wants to learn more about massage therapy, please feel free to leave comments below.
